Monkeypox Update: What's the REAL backstory with this "new" potential pandemic?
Some assorted articles to give you a little better background understanding (so far). Thanks again to reader Gabi.
What is Monkeypox?
Monkeypox is a virus that causes a disease in humans that is similar to smallpox but not as deadly. Although most cases occur in Africa, outbreaks in other countries have occurred from international travel and the exotic pet trade.
Monkeypox was first identified in 1958 when monkeys shipped from Singapore to a research facility in Denmark got sick. The first human case was not confirmed until 1970 — a child in the Democratic Republic of Congo suspected of having smallpox.

Monkeypox may be here to stay
It may be too late to stop monkeypox from circulating in the U.S. permanently.
The Biden administration was caught off-guard when the CDC confirmed monkeypox in a Massachusetts man on May 18. It was part of the first major outbreak outside parts of Africa where the virus is endemic, an unusual event that quickly spun into a global health crisis.
U.S. public health officials tracked the early cases around the country that followed. But a series of setbacks in the administration’s response — including clunky early testing protocols, slow vaccine distribution, a lack of federal funding to help state and local governments respond to the outbreak, and patchy communication with communities most affected by the virus — allowed the disease to gain a foothold among men who have sex with men, particularly those who have had multiple partners in a short period of time.
Epidemiologists, public health officials, and doctors now fear the government cannot eliminate the disease in that community, and they’re warning that they are running out of time to stop the virus from spreading in the U.S. population more broadly.

Top NYC Health Official Claims 'Retaliation' After Monkeypox Messaging Dispute
A veteran top infectious diseases expert at the New York City Health Department says he was reassigned in "retaliation" for butting heads with higher-ups regarding the city's monkeypox messaging.
Dr. Don Weiss, director of surveillance, was transferred to another unit after he publicly criticized the department's advice that gay men should simply 'avoid kissing' and 'cover up their sores' - as opposed to Weiss' advice that gay men abstain from or reduce sex for a period of time, the NY Post reports.

It’s ‘Not Moral’ to Request Abstinence to Stop Monkeypox: LGBT Activists
New Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data confirms that monkeypox overwhelmingly occurs in men who identify as gay or bisexual and who engage in risky sexual behavior—yet LGBT activists have said it is “not moral” to ask men to refrain from sex until the government can get the virus corralled.
Virtually all cases reported through last month involved men who have sex with men. “Among U.S. monkeypox cases with available data, 99% occurred in men, 94% of whom reported recent male-to-male sexual or close intimate contact” within three weeks before they developed symptoms, according to a CDC report released on Friday.
Of that number, one-third of men said they had sex with five or more partners in the previous three weeks. In all, 27% had sex with one other male sexual partner; 40% reported two to four partners; 14% reported five to nine partners; and 19%—nearly 1 in 5—reported 10 or more sexual partners within the previous 21 days.
The report also noted that monkeypox infections often took place in group settings: 38% “reported group sex, defined as sex with more than two persons, at a festival, group sex event, or sex party,” according to the CDC data, which cover May 17 through July 22.

Shame On The CDC. Call Monkeypox What It Is – An STD
The year is 2022…
This is the year Americans no longer know how to define the words ‘recession’ and ‘woman.’ Thanks to progressive enlightenment, we can now add ‘STD’ to that list.
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases website dated 6 August 2022, “Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections transmitted from an infected person to an uninfected person through sexual contact. STDs can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites. Examples include gonorrhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus infection, HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, and syphilis.”
The CDC echoes this medical reasoning concerning STD definitions on its 2022 website by stating “There are dozens of STDs. Some STDs, such as syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, are spread mainly by sexual contact.”
In 2020, the CDC published concerns about increasing STD prevalence in U.S society.
Gonorrhea (677,769 cases, up 45% from 2016). Syphilis (133,945 cases, up 52% from 2016). Congenital Syphilis (2,148 cases, up 235% from 2016).3
The logical discussion seems to end here.

Monkeypox vaccine shortage is a scam, says Dr. Meryl Nass
When the biodefense ‘experts’ at Johns Hopkins warn you off the ACAM-2000 vaccine for monkeypox, you know it is a really bad vaccine. But they still don’t tell you the whole story, Dr. Meryl Nass wrote yesterday.
On 9 August, STAT News reported that the US health secretary recently declared monkeypox as a public health emergency, paving the way for emergency use authorizations of additional vaccines or vaccine regimens to fight the disease.

WHO plans to rename monkeypox over concerns name may be derogatory, have racist connotations
The World Health Organization says it's holding an open forum to rename the disease monkeypox after some critics raised concerns the name could be derogatory or have racist connotations.
In a statement Friday, the U.N. health agency said it has also renamed two families, or clades, of the virus, using Roman numerals instead of geographic areas, to avoid stigmatization. The version of the disease formerly known as the Congo Basin will now be known as Clade one or I and the West Africa clade will be known as Clade two or II.
WHO said the decision was made following a meeting of scientists this week and in line with current best practices for naming diseases, which aims to "avoid causing offense to any cultural, social, national, regional, professional, or ethnic groups, and minimize any negative impact on trade, travel, tourism or animal welfare."
