Rest In Peace - Crossing the Rainbow Bridge
Gracie
September 22, 2011 - May 10, 2023
Very sadly, one of my two beloved long-haired miniature Dachshunds died unexpectedly and prematurely Wednesday night.
As is our custom, both Gracie and her sister, Maggie, were let out for a piddle before going to bed. For whatever reason, Gracie darted out into the street and was struck by a slow-moving car. It was pitch dark out. As you can see from the photo (taken last October) Gracie was black in principal coloring. The driver did nothing wrong; he simply didn't see her.
Gracie suffered grievous physical injuries and died shortly thereafter.
I'm pretty numb and detached for a couple of days with everything replaying in my mind. I got ZERO sleep Wednesday night while endlessly tossing and turning. Last night was a bit better.
I feel fortunate I was home most of Wednesday and I got to spend the day with the dogs near me. And I gave them some fresh grilled chicken that night.
I'm concerned about how Maggie, the surviving sister, will adapt. She’s eating normally, however, she seems a bit lost, albeit calm. She and Gracie were sole litter-mates who have been together since birth.
Wednesday night’s tragedy is a serious reminder of just how fragile and temporary our lives are… and the tenuous nature of the "good" we enjoy.
Gracie was a great dog and companion. I'm grateful for the years we spent together.
I’m very disturbed at the moment and quite sad about what happened. Thank you for your sentiments 🙏🙏
Dear Sam, Gracie, Maggie, and dear all, Continuing & Loving Prayers For you, and everyone concerned, God Bless guide protect and heal your hearts, minds, and souls. With deepest sympathies, Rhonda and Family. ☦️💜🛐 “Rest In Peace - Crossing the Rainbow Bridge Dear Gracie”
